My awareness of the intermingling between the
physical and metaphysical worlds spans far into my childhood,
as I seemed to have understood the existance of both at a very
young age. In my early teens I developed an enthusiastic interest in exploring all that was available to me and to question whatever sparked my curiosity. I always sensed there was something far greater than the here and now and hungered to learn more about life than
what general academia provided.
In the early seventies and almost by accident,
I learned of the medicinal and healing properties of herbs and
other natural substances, but not necessarily in the manner you're
thinking. One day while walking along the beach near my home and
sadly after receiving the potent sting of a jellyfish, I came upon some seaweed that had washed ashore. Almost instinctively I plucked a supple leaf from it's vine and wrapped it around my wound. The pain intensified momentarily, then subsided. In a matter of a few hours there were no visible signs of the welt, or swelling. Surely I was on to something big. Maybe I experienced a past life revelation, or cosmic influence, or
some kind of crazy divine intervention, I thought. What I knew
for certain, was that whatever guided me to seek remedy
from the seaweed, was really cool and eventually
inspired my education in holistic medicine.
I began to understand my intuitive gifts and abilities
also in my early teens, but I chose to keep those experiences a bit guarded. Intuitive abilities and spirituality weren't primary topics of conversation. There were believers in my family, but not much talk about it. The scientific aspects of these subjects weren't understood within my family's traditional church doctrines either, so the subjects were almost taboo. Stepping out of the family "belief box" took courage, because in truth I wasn't certain if my experiences were forbidden, or unusual,
or if I was just a freak of nature.
Unexplainable experiences ripple throughout my life,
they have been both delicately subtle and intensely
profound and have absolutely influenced my work.

Synesthesia is a neurologic anomoly that allows people
to respond to various stimuls with normal and unusual perceptions. Having perceptive abilities is simply like being able to see, think and
feel in deeper layers. I choose to buffer my abilities in my private life,
for the most part. Doing so keeps me centered and tends to
benefit peace of mind, normal interpersonal interaction
and the effort behind a surprise.
